Garrett Gilbert

The battle between Garrett Gilbert and Taylor Heinicke may already be over with Heinicke being the first QB in after Cam Newton the past two weeks. However, a strong performance by Gilbert may be enough to at least open the discussion back up.

Gilbert’s performance this preseason hasn’t been great as he has gone 15 of 26 for 162 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Meanwhile, Heinicke has gone 17 of 24 for 255 passing yards with two total touchdowns and one interception. However, Heinicke has looked much more comfortable running this offense, a scheme he has experience with in his time with the Minnesota Vikings.

Gilbert is clearly behind Heinicke, and possibly too much at this point, but if he wants any chance of making the roster he will need a strong game.
