These are the Old North Banter’s 2018 preseason awards for the UNC Football team.

Last year was a disappointment for the UNC Football team as they finished the year 3-9, including a 1-7 record within the ACC. The hope is that the Larry Fedora and the Tar Heels will be able to improve on that total this coming season.

The defense was a weak point for this team as they failed to keep any team under double digits last year. They ended up finishing the year allowing 31.3 points per game, which was almost a touchdown more than the previous season (24.9).

There is some hope that improved play on the defensive line will have an positive impact on the rest of the defense and lead to improvements.

On the offensive side of the ball, Fedora would love to see consistency at the quarterback position. The team had to start three quarterbacks last year and only one, Nathan Elliott, had a winning record as a starting QB.

The good news is that Elliott will enter the season as the starting quarterback as the position battle never really got going with Chazz Surratt suspended to start the year.

With the first UNC football game of the season less than two weeks away, we hand out our preseason awards for the upcoming season.
