Stock Down: Backup QBs

After a promising first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, the backup QBs took a step backwards against the Dolphins. The order of which the quarterbacks came in switched against the Dolphins with Taylor Heinicke coming in after Cam Newton and Garrett Gilbert finishing the game out.

However, neither quarterback looked exactly great with Heinicke going 5-9 for 88 passing yards and one interception. Gilbert on the other hand went 3 for 5 for 23 passing yards.

The inexperience at quarterback behind Cam Newton should be a concern for the coaching staff and the fact that neither quarterback has put together a stellar performance should magnify that concern.

It will be interesting to see if the team decides to bring in a veteran or if one of these two quarterbacks steps up their performance over the second half of the preseason.
