Stock Down: Matt Kalil

It is hard to imagine but Matt Kalil’s starting job isn’t in jeopardy, even though he struggled to keep Robert Quinn, who had two sacks, away from Cam Newton.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, the reason Kalil’s job isn’t in jeopardy is because they don’t really have an option to replace him in the starting lineup. The depth at offensive tackle took a big hit with the injury to Daryl Williams, which leaves Blaine Clausell and Quinterrius Eatmon as the backups. It would be a major gamble to go with either of these two because neither has taken a snap in a NFL regular season game.

It is worth noting that Kalil did miss practice on Sunday and while he has struggled if he does miss extended time, this would be a big blow to an offensive line that has already been hit hard with injuries.
