Greg Van Roten

The other starting job up for grabs is at left guard and is a battle between Greg Van Roten and undrafted rookie Brendan Mahon. The veteran got the start against the Bills and his performance last week should earn him another start this week.

The question is how long can he hold off Mahon from the starting job. According to Charlotte Observer’s Jourdan Rodrigue, it may not be too long and she expects Mahon to have the job before the end of the year.

The left side of this offensive line had to be a concern for the coaching staff entering training camp. The combination of losing Andrew Norwell and the lackluster play of Matt Kalil is not an exciting combination. However, if Van Roten or Mahon can play well it will be a big boost to this group.
