Carolina Panthers: Top questions entering Miami Dolphins game
Can first-team offense keep rhythm?
The Panthers’ first-team offense only played two series against the Bills and it looked like two completely different offenses. The first series had one first down, thanks to an 11-yard reception by Christian McCaffrey, then struggled to move the ball. The next three plays resulted in no-gain on a McCaffrey run, a two-yard run by McCaffrey that resulted in a fumble but was recovered by the Panthers, and a pass batted down at the line of scrimmage on a screen to D.J. Moore.
However, the second drive was a perfect example of what this offense should look like in 2018 at its best. They ran a nine-play, 75 yard drive that was capped off by a Christian McCaffrey two-yard touchdown run. On this drive, Cam Newton had five completions, one called back due to an offensive hold, to five different players.
This is something Newton did very well during his MVP season and it makes life very difficult for opposing defenses when trying to stop this offense. The starters will likely play more than they did against the Bills and it will be interesting to see if they can keep this rhythm going from their last drive the previous week.
