Colin Jones
The 30-year old safety has found a niche with the Carolina Panthers the past few years, making a impact on their special teams unit. However, the depth at safety may not warrant keeping Jones on the team for his performance on special teams.
The Panthers added third-round draft pick Rashaan Gaulden this year along with free agent signing Da’Norris Searcy. These two join returning players Mike Adams, Demetrious Cox and Damian Parms.
The team will likely keep four safeties, and with Adams, Searcy and Gaulden all locked in, this will leave only one spot left for the remaining three players. The coaching staff could elect to go with a younger player like Cox or Parms and cut Jones. This would also free up $1,175,000 in cap savings if the team wants to sign a veteran before the season.
The safety position is a veteran group so it would not be surprising to see the Panthers to elect to go with the youth of Cox or Parms.
