Garrett Gilbert

The quarterback entering this season under the most pressure may not be Cam Newton but rather Garrett Gilbert. This is the first time in eight years that the Panthers won’t have veteran quarterback Derek Anderson backing up Newton.

The experience of Anderson has proven to be invaluable over the years as he has played a key role, especially in 2014 when his two wins helped the Panthers win the division with a 7-8-1 record.

However, this job now belongs to Gilbert who has spent time with four teams prior to the Panthers but has never thrown a pass in an NFL regular season game. He will also be looking for his first NFL touchdown as he has to throw one in a preseason game.

These next four games will be important for Gilbert so he can be as prepared as possible if the team needs him during the regular season.
