Brendan Mahon

One of the big stories this training camp has been the performance of undrafted rookie Brendan Mahon. The former Penn State Nittany Lion was looking like he had earned one of the backup guard spots on this 53-man roster.

However, after news on Tuesday that role could be expanding even more. The news that Amini Silatolu had suffered a torn meniscus moves Mahon into the starting job at left guard and Ron Rivera confirmed after practice he would get the start.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Panthers turned to an undrafted rookie at the position. The Panthers previously had Andrew Norwell in the position, who started nine games as an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State.

This is a great opportunity for Mahon to make a statement and possibly earn his way into the starting role.
