Running Back/Fullback

Running Back Starter: C.J. Anderson

Fullback Starter: Alex Armah

Bench: Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Hood

The Panthers’ backfield also saw the end of an era with the release of Jonathan Stewart this offseason. The veteran running back had spent the better part of the decade as a key contributor to this run game.

The keys will now be turned over to C.J. Anderson and Christian McCaffrey. Entering training camp, there is a question of how McCaffrey will be utilized and his workload in this offense. The second-year back saw most of his production come in the passing game as a rookie. It will be worth watching if Turner uses him more as a traditional running back or moves him around the field.

If McCaffrey continues to get most touches through the air, Anderson could have a big role in this offense as the primary ball carrier.

As for the third running back, this will be a training camp battle between Cameron Artis-Payne, Elijah Hood and Kenjon Barner. At this point, Hood gets the edge as he is a running back that was signed by this front office versus Artis-Payne who was drafted by the previous general manager.
