Quarterback

Starter: Cam Newton

Bench: Garrett Gilbert

It is an end of an era at the quarterback position for the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton. This will be the first year that Newton will not have Derek Anderson backing him up. The veteran signal caller was signed as a free agent during Newton’s rookie year and played well when needed.

This year the team will have Garrett Gilbert, who was drafted in the sixth round by the then St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft. After time with Patriots, Lions and Raiders, Gilbert signed with the Panthers last year. He then went on to split time last year between the practice squad and active roster.

However, the key to this team’s success lies with Cam Newton. The former first overall pick will be looking to have a bounce back year with Norv Turner calling the plays. He seems to be the perfect fit for Turner’s offense and will be interesting to watch how quickly he is able to learn this new scheme.
