Colin Jones

Safety Colin Jones has played the past six seasons with the Carolina Panthers and proven to be one of the top special teams player on this team and provide depth at safety. However, he may need a strong performance this training camp to make it seven.

The Panthers have had turnover at the safety position this offseason with Kurt Coleman’s departure in free agency. He was replaced by free agent Da’Norris Searcy and rookie Rashaan Gaulden, who will likely compete for the starting job. The Panthers still have Demetrious Cox, who showed potential last year before being placed on injured reserve, and Dezmen Southward.

The issue for Jones is that he is set to make $1,175,000 this season and if he were cut would not result in any dead money. While this salary is small compared to some others on the roster, the fact he has no dead money and the depth at the position may leave no room for Jones.
