Week 1: vs. Army

If consistency across the entire season and continuing the momentum from the end of 2017 is going to be important for the Blue Devils than a win over Army in Week 1 will be key.

This is a different Army team than from a few years ago and the Blue Devils found this out the hard way with a 21-16 loss last year. The Black Knights have gone to two straight bowl games and finished with 10 wins last season under head coach Jeff Monken.

This is a game that the pressure will be on the Blue Devils’ defense as the Black Knights like to run an offense that focus on the ground game and ball control. The longer they are on the field and controlling the momentum, the less time their opponents have to score.

Fortunately for the Blue Devils they have one of the best linebackers in the country with Joe Giles-Harris, who was named to the Bednarik Award watch list. He will be busy trying to slow down the Black Knights’ option.

This should be a good test for the Blue Devils and help set the tone for the 2018 season.
