Charlotte Hornets: Summer League Stock Report
The Charlotte Hornets Summer League came to a close with a 87-84 overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors. We take a look at which players helped, and hurt, their stock heading into the 2018 season.
The Charlotte Hornets had a good run in the Las Vegas Summer League, winning two of their three games in preliminary round with wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat before falling to the Boston Celtics.
This set them up for a matchup against the Golden State Warriors in the opening round of the playoffs, a game they ended up dominating and winning by a final of 87-69. However, that playoff run ended on Saturday as they fell to the Toronto Raptors by a score of 87-84 in overtime.
While it was disappointing to see the Hornets run end, there was plenty of bright spots that should have fans excited. The biggest disappointment was the fact that the Hornets had to deal with injuries to key players.
There was none bigger than Malik Monk, who after scoring 28 points in the opening game was forced to miss the remainder of the Summer League due a thumb injury. The good news is that originally it was thought to be a broken thumb, however further testing determined that wasn’t the case.
In addition to Monk, Devonte Graham was forced to miss the Summer League playoffs after suffering a knee injury. A case could be made that these two injuries, plus the absence of Willy Hernangomez, played a role in the outcome of the game against the Raptors.
These are the players who helped, or hurt, their stock with their Summer League play.
