Toxic Differential

The one stat that may have the greatest correlation to an NFL team’s success is the toxic differential, which combines the turnover differential and the explosive play differential for NFL teams. The Panthers finished with a negative differential, and was one of two teams last season to have a winning record with a negative differential.

The good news for the Panthers is that if they improve on the other three categories, this is a number that should drastically improve thanks to improvements on both sides of the ball. With Norv Turner calling plays for this offense, and if he is able to successful implement the vertical passing attack, they should finish the year with more explosive plays.
