Carolina Panthers: Key stats to improve for 2018 season
Passing Yards Per Game
192.3 passing yards per game (28th in the NFL)
It is pretty amazing to think that a quarterback who threw for over 4,000 yards as a rookie, including back to back 400+ yard games to start his career finished the year, led an offense with under 200 passing yards per game. However, that is exactly what happened for Cam Newton, a player only two years removed from an MVP season.
The switch to Norv Turner though should help revitalize Newton and this passing game. Turner is an experienced play caller who has worked with some of the best quarterbacks in the game, from Troy Aikman to Phillip Rivers.
In an article by Charlotte Observer’s Joe Person, former quarterback Sage Rosenfels believes this offense is suited for Cam Newton and he could return to his rookie form:
"In Newton’s case, Rosenfels believes that’s going to involve a lot of vertical passes to take advantage of Newton’s strong arm, which were a staple of Chudzinski’s attack during the quarterback’s first two seasons."
This is a stat that should improve dramatically in 2018 with Cam Newton under center and Norv Turner on the sidelines.
