Duke head coach David Cutcliffe and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten both made it clear they weren’t viable options as the next Tennessee head coach. The next name thrown around as a possible replacement for Jones was Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.

According to Brett McMurphy, the Vols went as far as to drag Peyton Manning into coercing Gundy to join the Tennessee staff. However, Gundy made his decision to stay in Stillwater.

The carousel continues with Doeren and Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, Brohm declined the Volunteers’ offer, putting the focus now on the leader of the Wolfpack.
