Wake Forest Demon Deacons: Three Given ACC Weekly Honors
After an upset over nationally-ranked NC State, the Demon Deacons placed three athletes on the ACC’s Players of the Week.
Wake Forest maintained dominance throughout its home game against then-No. 25 NC State last Saturday. The Demon Deacons put up just enough stops to hold the Wolfpack back to take the win in Winston-Salem, N.C., 30-24.
The Atlantic Coast Conference recognized the team’s efforts by naming three athletes to the conference’s weekly honors. The Deacons led the conference this week with Miami as the only other team to have more than one player named for last week’s games.
Offensive Lineman of the Week — Ryan Anderson, Jr., C
Anderson protected John Wolford all game against a potent Wolfpack defensive front, one of the major keys to Wake’s win. The Raleigh, N.C. native also aided the Deacons’ offense to the highest scoring team in school history with 388 total points thus far. Also, this season also marks the first time that the Demon Deacons threw for over 3,000 yards and ran for over 2,000 yards in the same season. Anderson’s contributions on the offensive line have played a pivotal role this season.

Receiver of the Week — Tabari Hines, Jr., WR
Wolford’s favorite target against the Wolfpack, Hines racked up 139 yards on eight receptions with three touchdowns. The Florence, S.C. native reached the century mark in receiving yards for only the third time this season. Hines’ third touchdown, an 18-yard strike from Wolford, proved to be the decisive score in the Deacons’ six-point win over State.
Linebacker of the Week — Demetrius Kemp, Jr., LB
Kemp recorded eight tackles against the Wolfpack on Saturday, but his biggest contributions came from forcing two major turnovers. The Demopolis, Ala. native forced Jaylen Samuels to fumble in the third quarter to take State off the field. However, that strip was later superseded by forcing a fourth-quarter fumble on the Deacons’ goal line which Kemp recovered for a touchback. The latter Wolfpack turnover more or less sealed the game for Wake Forest.
