The Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers meet in Raleigh both looking to snap four-game losing streaks. Here’s your full preview.

Neither the Carolina Hurricanes nor the Florida Panthers have had roaring starts to their seasons. Both are cellar dwellers of their respective divisions. Carolina has just 11 points and is bringing up the rear in the Metropolitan. Florida is tied with Buffalo in ineptitude with 10 points at the bottom of the Atlantic division. Both the Canes and Panthers enter Tuesday night’s contest with four-game losing streaks. Who will give their fan base a temporary reprieve from their early season swoon?

The Hurricanes and Panthers are nearly identical in their failure but drastically different in their execution of that failure. Both teams are 0-2-2 in their last four games. The Canes dropped their last game to the Coyotes 2-1 in a shootout. The Panthers lost their last game to the Rangers 5-4 in overtime. Those scores are microcosms of their young seasons.

The Canes have been a defensively average, offensively stagnant team, while the Panthers have been the opposite. Florida is fourth in goals per game and 31st in goals against. The Canes are 27th in goals per game and 15th in goals against.

Roberto Luongo is starting his second game in a row after coming off injured reserve with a hand injury. In his first game back, he made 39 saves against the Ne York Rangers but gave up five goals including the game-winner from Kevin Shattenkirk in overtime.  Luongo is making his 500th appearance for the Panthers and trying to take sole possession of fourth place on the NHL all-time wins list. He is currently tied with Curtis Joseph.

Carolina is a -140 favorite to Florida’s +125 underdog. The total is 5.5 goals. This is a classic offense against defense battle. In hockey, it’s hard to go against the team with the better goaltender. Luongo might be a legend (even if some of that is for bad reasons in Vancouver), but I’ll take the goalie in Scott Darling who is 10 years younger and has a 2.50 GAA to Luongo’s 3.83.

Prediction: Canes 3, Panthers 2
