NC State Wolfpack dynamite safety Josh Jones was taken off the board in the second round of the NFL Draft.

The NC State Wolfpack saw their first player go off the board in the second round of the NFL Draft. That would be safety Josh Jones, taken with the sixty-first overall pick by the Green Bay Packers. The Packers had traded out of the first round of the draft and already had drafted one secondary piece in the second, cornerback Kevin King from Washington.

Green Bay came out of a tough year for them defensively with their secondary getting hit by a number of injuries. Now it is clear that they want to shore up that group by taking King and now Jones, and they passed on T.J. Watt back in the first round to do it.

Jones is a good physical fit for the safety position. He is currently two-hundred and twenty pounds and still runs a 4.4. He has enough height to cover tight ends down the middle as well. He is going to a division where he will have to face the likes of Matt Stafford twice a year. We all know Stafford’s arm and his lack of fear when it comes to going deep.

Jones will also see the Chicago Bears twice a year. This means that he will experience first hand the process the Bears go through as they juggle the need to play Mike Glennon versus the need to develop Mitch Trubisky. Jones might even have something to say about that as he might have a key pick that decides things one way or another.

One of the benefits of going to the Packers is the knowledge that Jones will be on a team that has Aaron Rodgers and believes that it should be a playoff team every year. Expectations may increase for Jones in that way, but there will be lots of veterans around to draw on for help.
