North Carolina Tar Heels: The Case for Mitch Trubisky
- What is the value of the quarterback class as a whole?
This concern was more prominent in the past than it is now. A rookie quarterback could demand ridiculous money right out the gate and teams would know what those demands would look like before they drafted them. Would the Rams take Goff if he had said he wanted to be paid like Andy Dalton before ever throwing a pass? Probably not (though they did take Sam Bradford in the last of those kinds of deals).

It is still not irrelevant. The worst quarterback class of recent years was the 2013 draft. Coming into the draft the hype was around Geno Smith to the extent that he was invited to the Green Room. Only one quarterback was taken in the first round, E.J. Manuel, but even his selection was made by a needy Bills team willing to take a risk. The best guy was probably Glennon, taken in the third round.
A quarterback class usually hangs it hat on two guys. This year those two guys are Trubisky and Deshaun Watson. Others have risen behind them like Pat Mahomes, but it’s those two guys who that will be the first off the board and that we are confident won’t flop. It is up to the Browns to weigh them against each other. If there is not enough difference then trade down or take Myles Garrett and trade up to get the other guy. There has to be a lack of comfort sitting at twelve waiting to see how many teams pass on the two.
These guys have to look better that the Goff-Wentz duo, by the way. We saw where they got drafted.
