While the three teams were all leaning on experience, each one brought in a freshman big man to play a big role in the rotation although each of these players played a bit differently.

  • In 2005, Marvin Williams was added to the roster and gave more athleticism and retained some of the same shooting options that the Heels had when Jawad Williams was on the court.

    In 2009, Ed Davis became a contributor defensively in the post. He could rebound and block shots, and he could score off of rebounds on the offensive side. He had a good impact against Michigan State in the finals.

    In 2017, Tony Bradley was the new face at the backup center position. His influence was a little more restrained than the other two, but he had his role to play in the messy victory over Gonzaga.

    The 2008 team had no new post help, everyone was back from the 2007 team except Brandan Wright. The 2016 team also was playing with house money in the post with Brice Johnson, juniors Meeks, and Hicks. Did we need more Luke Maye?
