The North Carolina Tar Heels crossed one item off of restocking the offense for next season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will hear lots of names called during the NFL Draft in late April. However they are currently looking at trying to rebuild an offense for their own football future. Guys like Mitch Trubisky, Elijah Hood, T.J. Logan, Bug Howard, Mack Hollins, and Ryan Switzer will not be on the field next season. It is easier to name them than the people who will replace them.

Today one of those answers came to light. The Tar Heels had been open to the idea of bringing in a grad-school transfer to add some experience at the quarterback position. Now they seem to have found their man in LSU transfer Brandon Harris. Harris will spend his final year of eligibility with the Heels and he adds some needed stability to the quarterback ranks.

Harris was the LSU starter in 2015 and was benched in 2016 after the Wisconsin loss. He is more of dual threat guy, but quarterback running has been in the mix in the Tar Heel playbook for a while now. He is choosing North Carolina for the opportunity to start, but he possibly received some advice from former head coach Les Miles too.

Harris enters an offense with some question marks. Austin Proehl is still around. So too are tight ends Brandon Fritts and Carl Tucker. The team will also likely work Anthony Ratliff-Williams into more sets as well. Jordon Brown is the incumbent running back and who knows which freshmen will step into roles right away.

The clear point here is that the Heels could have gone into the season with a question mark at the most important position in their offense and now they will not. Harris is not the second coming, but he deserves a chance to be the player that LSU recruited him to be. We’ll just have to see if he chooses Ronald Curry’s number.
