The Charlotte Hornets are not dead in the playoff race just yet and the return of Frank Kaminsky could help that cause.

The fans of the Charlotte Hornets were given quite the scare when the site Queen City Hoops announced that center Frank Kaminsky would be out for the remainder of the season. It would have been the end of the team’s already dwindling playoff hopes and basically put the team in a position to simply play out the rest of the year.

Fortunately the team itself moved to correct this perception, and now it seems possible that Kaminsky could be back this weekend according to reports from James Herbert of CBS Sports. Kaminsky’s return will mean that the Hornets could try to add on to the momentum they started when beating the Indiana Pacers 100-88 Monday night.

The Pacers game revealed the Hornets formula for success down the stretch. That formula is balanced production from the main rotation players augmented by big games from Nicolas Batum and Kemba Walker. Walker and Batum both scored more than twenty points in that game while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Cody Zeller, and Jeremy Lamb reached double digits.

Kaminsky adds to that group just one more option to help carry the team if some player has a bad game. The production of Lamb and Kidd-Gilchrist, for instance, made up for poor performances by Johnny O’Bryant and Marco Belinelli. While it is too early for Charlotte to depend on O’Bryant, Belinelli is a guy who could have a big game in the future to make up for someone else.

More from Hornets Rumors

Marvin Williams scored only six points against Thaddeus Young, and it is possible that Kaminsky could have gotten better looks with his additional inches of height. He also would have made the minutes disparity more bearable. Batum, Walker, Williams, and Zeller all logged thirty four minutes or more with Williams playing forty. Williams at least would have benefitted from fresher legs as he went 0 for 5 from the three point line.

Do not despair quite yet Hornets fans, the team just needs a good run and then they will be right back in the middle of things. The Hornets play the playoff hungry tonight at 7:30.
