Former North Carolina Tar Heels player Tyler Hansbrough is trying to relaunch his NBA career.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels center Tyler Hansbrough was not part of the Charlotte Hornets roster this year. The team was looking to say what money they could and Hansbrough was also not quite the big man backup that they were looking for these days. They were hoping to find someone taller and more defensive.

Hansbrough did not give on playing in the NBA once that happened. He did not get a call from a roster, but now it looks like that might change. The NBA has their own minor league these days, the NBDL. The NBDL is the home for young players trying to make it, but it also the home of veterans who have not given up on the dream like Nate Robinson.

The big forward will be returning to the Indiana Pacers organization according to reports from Reggie Hayes of the News-Sentinel. The Pacers drafted Hansbrough in the first round as a rookie. This time he will be playing for the Fort Wayne Mad-Ants in the minor league level. It will be Tyler’s first action since last basketball season.

More from North Carolina Tar Heels

The Pacers could try to bring Hansbrough into the main roster for their playoff run. If not the Mad-Ants are in the middle of their own attempt to make the postseason. Hansbrough is not the only acquisition that they made to do that. They also traded for former Kentucky guard Marquis Teague to help boost their chances.

At this point in Hansbrough’s career, teams know what they are going to get from Tyler. He is going to do all the workman stuff that needs to happen from a post man. He is not likely to be the volume scorer that made him so successful in college. He should have plenty of fresh legs to do just that for Fort Wayne tomorrow night.
