The North Carolina Tar Heels are looking to improve their draft position at the NFL Combine.

The NFL Combine is happening this week and several former North Carolina Tar Heels are in the crosshairs of the big event. In fact the school has had a bounty of players who are making news one way or another.

A lot of focus has been on Mitch Trubisky given his status as one of the top two quarterback prospects available in the draft. He surprised some folks by being an inch taller than suspected at measuring. Yes, Trubisky is actually 6’2”.

Yesterday Trubisky spent his time trying to convince people that he had enough experience to play quarterback in the NFL after only one season of being a starter at North Carolina. Trubisky was adamant that people were forgetting his important platoon appearances before last year and feel he had seen enough defenses according to reports from Dane Brugler of CBS Sports.

Trubisky is considered to be a top ten pick and will be either the first or second quarterback off the board. There is a small chance that he could be taken number one by the Browns.

One of Trubisky’s targets is also trying to make a name for himself at the combine. That would be Mack Hollins, who missed the last part of his senior season with injury. Hollins claims to be at full speed, but the physical gifts of the deep threat aren’t really in question. Instead teams want to see him run more routes than the deep ones he had in the offense, according to reports from CBS Sports’ Rob Rang.

Hollins may show he has the tools to be a receiver, but he also has the backup plan of being a special teams standout. That foot in the door may be the thing that gets him the chance to grow with his team.

Hollins’ speed has been a calling card of his, but it was another Tar Heel that impressed observers with his wheels. That would be running back T.J. Logan. He ran a 4.37 forty yard dash and demonstrated some strength with seventeen reps in the bench press. Logan may fit some team’s idea of a scat-back. That would lead to him being a more Darren Sproles type in the pros.

The NFL Draft should be an exciting time in seeing where all of these guys end up.
