NC State Wolfpack: Mike Glennon In Demand this Summer
Mike Glennon, former NC State Wolfpack quarterback, looks to be a big player in free agncy.
We might be about to witness a renaissance for former NC State Wolfpack quarterback Mike Glennon. A number of teams have questions about their quarterback spot and a number of teams think that Glennon might fit into their plans in some way. Glennon is a free agent this summer.
He was drafted four years ago to possibly be the next starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He even held the starting job at times before the Bucs changed coaches and drafted Jameis Winston. With Winston in the fold, Glennon has been sidelined until this summer.
Glennon did show some promise when he did play. He certainly has the build to be a starting quarterback with his 6’6” 225 pounds frame out there. These features make him an option for teams that are looking for starting quarterbacks. There aren’t any big name free agents out there (although watch the Tony Romo tea leaves) and the quarterback draft class is not that deep (but then again Dak Prescott was a fourth round pick).

Glennon would then represent a low risk alternative. If he impresses, then great. You now have a twenty-seven year old quarterback in with a good chunk of his career left. If he doesn’t light things up then a team could move on without overspending to get to this point. With that in mind, he pops up in several teams’ plans.
One of those teams could be Chicago. They cut Jay Cutler loose and ultimately they are a John Fox team. John Fox teams win games by running the ball and playing tough defense. That may not describe the Bears too closely now, but Fox just wants a quarterback who won’t make too many mistakes. Glennon has maintained something close to a 2:1 TD/INT ratio his entire career.
Or how bout the Jets? Ultimately the Jets are in a similar boat to the Bears. There are weapons (until they cut a number of them like Brandon Marshall) that just need the ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick and company threw too many picks. The Jets have the sixth pick, but they may not be sold on the three young quarterbacks in this draft. Glennon might represent a safer option and a better fit with the overall team philosophy.

Then there is the Broncos. While the Broncos should try to pry Romo out of Dallas, they go in this direction instead. When the defense is rolling, the Broncos just need someone not to screw it up. Glennon could plug in there. If he didn’t work then Paxton Lynch would be ready on the sidelines.
The point is that Glennon is going land somewhere that will give him a chance, and that is exciting.
