Linebacker

Lost – No one

Signed – Malik Robinson (ILB, 3 star, 6’1”210 lbs), Jeremiah Gemmel (OLB, 6’2” 205 lbs)

This would be the opposite of quarterback. All the linebackers return, but this is Chizik’s opportunity to recruit his type of linebackers after losing Jeff Schoettmer and Shakeel Rashad two years ago. Robinson and Gemmel show the kinds of frames that Chizik wants to build around.

Defensive Back

Lost – Des Lawrence (CB-SR), Dominique Green (S-SR)

Signed – Tre Shaw (CB, 4 star, 6’0” 180 lbs), Dazz Newsome (CB, 3 star, 5’10” 170 lbs), Kayne Roberts (S, 2 star, 6’3” 200 lbs)

The loss of Lawrence is more quality than quantity. Shaw is the bigger type of corner that you would want matching up on the outside. Newsome could see some early use in the nickel. Roberts is the kind of guy that they could mold into a safety down the road or move him to linebacker.

Kicker

Lost – Nick Weiler (SR)

Signed – Noah Ruggles (2 star, 6’3” 175 lbs)

There will be a new kicker. Kicker is important because you either have one or you don’t. Weiler’s early years were marked by concern that we did not. His later years put those fears to rest, but Ruggles is one of those guys who will have to prove themselves to make us feel comfortable about the kicks this season.
