4. Teams in the ACC among the best run-stoppers

NC State is one of four ACC teams that rank within the top ten teams in the nation when it comes to defending the run. The Wolfpack allows only 104.7 rushing yards per game, fifth-lowest in the nation. The other Atlantic Coast teams in the top 10 are Boston College (seventh, 106.9), Pittsburgh (ninth, 108.9), and Louisville (10th, 110.0). Bradley Chubb, a second-team All-ACC selection, leads the State defense with 21 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for 80 yards in addition to 9.5 quarterback sacks for a loss of 53 yards.

3. Wolfpack vs. Commodores

NC State and Vanderbilt will only be meeting for the third time in history. Before the two teams clashed in 2012 at LP Field (now Nissan Stadium) in Nashville, the only season the teams met on the gridiron was in 1946 when the Commodores defeated the Beattie Feathers-led Wolfpack, 7-0. It would be one of only three losses State would sustain that season with the other two coming from Virginia Tech and Oklahoma (1947 Gator Bowl).
