North Carolina Tar Heels: Trubisky Projected #1 in Some Drafts
The North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitch Trubisky is all of the sudden one of the most coveted players in the next NFL Draft
The North Carolina Tar Heels are not active this week in football. They will be busy waiting to see what bowl they will be headed to. Their best news of the weekend probably came when the Texas and LSU jobs were filled by Tim Herman and Ed Orgeron. That should mean that Coach Larry Fedora remains in Chapel Hill. That does depend on the Oregon job, but Fedora does not really have ties to the West Coast.
Outside of the silly season known as the coaches carousel the Tar Heels are also drawing some notice on the draft boards. Specifically one Tar Heel is moving up the draft boards like a rocket. That is Mitch Trubisky, who theoretically still has another year of eligibility. The junior from Ohio is getting lots of first round love.
Trubisky’s rationale for leaving would be simple. He just had a good year. The team is going to drastically shuffle behind him. His offensive linemen are mostly leaving. His receivers are leaving. There is a chance that next year would not be as kind to him as this year was.

He also could leave if CBS Mock Drafter Rob Rang has anything to say about it. Rang has Trubisky going first overall to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are winless so far this year and aiming for that top pick. Trubisky would be something of a local savior since he is from Mentor, OH.
Hue Jackson is also highly considered as an offensive mind as head coach. He could find ways to use the quarterback’s accuracy although he would need some more weapons around the guy. It would also be the first time that Trubisky would have to be the face of a franchise. He only started at Carolina one year and arguably Ryan Switzer was the better known player.

Still, this is some rarefied air for both Carolina and Trubisky. The Tar Heels have essentially no legacy at quarterback at the Pro level. Trubisky was largely overlooked in a conference with Deshaun Watson and then Lamar Jackson in it. Now the scouts have him above Watson in the draft. For a player who has been very patient, it suddenly seems like too much too soon.
