Charlotte Hornets: Chances for a Stephen Curry Return?
The Charlotte Hornets have an unique tie to Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, but does that really mean anything?
The Charlotte Hornets played an ugly basketball game against the Dallas Mavericks and came away with the win, but that has not been the topic of discussion this week. Instead we have to look west to where the Panthers are preparing for the Seattle Seahawks. They were practicing at San Jose State Universary on the California near the Rivera family stomping grounds. It was also near the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry.
Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer got the opportunity to ask him (Curry) about his future. Steph is in the last year of the contract extension that he signed with the Warriors at the end of his rookie deal. He will be a free agent this summer. Fowler asked him point blank if he would consider signing with Charlotte.
Curry essentially shrugged the question off. He said that was more likely some time in the past. He did not say he would not consider it, but he also did not close the door on it either. Hey, anything to make sure the Warriors offer the max, right?

Curry leaving the Warriors at this phase makes little sense. The team just got Kevin Durant in a true effort to have as much of a championship window as possible. Curry’s teammates Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are locked in to long deals. The team won the title two years ago and made the Finals last year. That’s a lot to give up just to come home.

It also would cause some problems for the Hornets. The team would most likely have to move Kemba Walker. Even if they could afford Curry, he and Walker would be a defensive trouble spot out there together. If you committed to playing that duo that would mean shifting Nicolas Batum to the small forward where he would have to share minutes with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
That said, it is hard to turn down a guy like Steph if he wants to come. It would be a more welcome problem for the general manager than having no players of value.
