The North Carolina Tar Heels had the lead in producing All-ACC inclusions among the Big Four.

No team from the state, not even the North Carolina Tar Heels, will be participating in a league championship game this upcoming week. That does not mean that the teams of the state are not deserving of other honors. In this case the All-ACC media were released and the press named the best players in the conference.

Heading down the list, the first name we come to is Ryan Switzer on the first team offense. The senior Tar Heels receiver broke the record for catches in a season as well as getting the mark for catches in a career. His play saved the Heels in several games and he proved that he is much more than a punt return threat.

At kicker is Wake Forest’s Mike Weaver. The normally dependable Weaver did not have the best of days in the season’s finale versus Boston College but that did not stop the press from making him the top man with a leg this year. He was 19/25 for field goal attempts and missed no extra points on the season.

The second team offense also had some local bright spots. Tackle Jon Heck and Center Lukas Crowley were representing for the Heels. Tony Adams appears at guard for the NC State Wolfpack.

The two schools also shared running backs on the second team. Matt Dayes was there for the Wolfpack in the position proper. He was the first State rusher to gain 1,000 yards since T.A. McClendon. T.J. Logan was tapped as the specialist for the second team with two kicks returned for touchdowns on the year for the Heels.

  • While no local players made the first team defense, two Deacs made the list for the second unit. Linebacker Marquel Lee and safety Jessie Bates were the two players chosen in those spots.

The third team offense would bring in familiar faces Mitch Trubisky and Elijah Hood for the Tar Heels. Hood could still have a shot at a second thousand yard season with a good performance in whatever bowl game the Heels make.

The third team defense includes Tar Heel nemesis Bradley Chubb from State at end. His partner at the position was Wake Forest’s Duke Ejiofor. Between them is North Carolina’s Nazair Jones at defensive tackle. Duke linebacker Bo Humphries and then cornerback Breon Borders round out the local selections on the list.

Finally there are the honorable mentions. Bug Howard and Nick Weiler were on the offensive list for the Heels. They were joined by Jaylen Samuels and Joe Scelfo from NC State.

Defensively, the honorable mentions included Andre Smith, Des Lawrence, and M.J. Stewart of the Tar Heels. They were joined by Duke’s freshman linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, NC State safety Josh Jones, and finally Wake punter Dom Maggio.
