Charlotte 49ers: Senior Night Has High Stakes against MTSU
The Charlotte 49ers have a lot on the line as they seek revenge against Middle Tennessee.
Would we really think that the Charlotte 49ers would be bowl hunting with two games to go? Well they are. If the 49ers can manage to win their next two games they will have six wins and be available for bowl selection.
Yes this is partially a commentary on there being too many bowls and the silliness of having .500 teams eligible for bowl games. But those are the rules of the game so let’s play along and try to work them in favor of a 49ers time in its second year of existence in FBS.
So how hard is the lift? It is pretty hard. The second game against the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners is the easier of the two. The 49ers took the Roadrunners to overtime last year before falling short. The team that sacked Marshall and Southern Miss would be able to bring that one home.

No the harder game is tomorrow’s game against Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders put up seventy on the 49ers last year in a welcome to Conference USA moment that still stings. Revenge against the Blue Raiders would be sweet but it will require a mistake free ball game.
It is also Senior Night for the 49ers. Many of the players who will be moving on this year were original members of the team when it formed in FCS. They brought the team up and then showed they belonged in FBS this year with those two wins over CUSA stalwarts. The class has names like Austin Duke, Kalif Phillips, Matt Johnson, Blake Brewer and Larry Ogunjobi that we got used to over the years.

They will be needed one more time tomorrow. Phillips will need to be part of a ball control scheme to keep the Blue Raiders spread attack off the field. When it does get on the field it will need Ogunjobi to make sure that the quarterback does not have time to find open receivers.
Do that and maybe the UTSA game will be the one to decide whether or not the 49ers reach the postseason to give those initial seniors a proper send off.
