The Carolina Panthers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 on Sunday. Carolina’s playoff hopes have dwindled lately. They have a slim chance to defend their title.

In the second quarter, Kansas City trailed Carolina 17-0. Prior to halftime, the Chiefs managed to make a field goal.

In the second half, Carolina’s offense stagnated. They did not score anymore points for the rest of the game. Carolina struggled with their protection of Cam Newton.

A key moment in the game took place during the third quarter. Carolina was in field goal range until Newton was sacked for a 12-yard loss on a third-and-18. This drive took 10 minutes and 20 plays, which resulted in a punt by the Panthers.

Cam Newton was the offense for the Panthers on Sunday. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 261 yards along with one touchdown and one interception. Also, he rushed 12 times for 54 yards and one touchdown. Kelvin Benjamin caught seven passes for 84 yards. Devin Funchess has three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Kansas City’s defense lone touchdown came from their defense. In the fourth quarter, Chiefs’ defensive back Eric Berry had a pick-six. He intercepted a pass from Newton and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown. Kansas City connected on a two-point conversion.

Kansas City’s offense did not score any touchdowns. Chiefs’ Cairo Santos made all of four of his field goals, including a 37-yard game-winner with no time left.

The Panthers face the New Orleans on Thursday night while the Chiefs face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
