The North Carolina Tar Heels unveiled a change to their rotation against the Green Wave.

The North Carolina Tar Heels went down to New Orleans last night to take on the Tulane Green Wave. They succeeded in getting a twenty point victory, 95-75, over the home team. There were signs that Joel Berry and Justin Jackson will be able to take the scoring reins as they scored twenty-three and twenty-seven respectively. Kennedy Meeks controlled the boards with fifteen rebounds. Isaiah Hicks added another sixteen points.

From there the scoring line was fairly quiet. Tony Bradley was the other player to score double figures with ten off the bench. Neither of the two freshmen guards made much impact on the scoreboard. Part of that was to be expected with Berry and Jackson logging thirty minutes each in the ball game. That is a lot of time this early but they are currently the least replaceable players on the roster.

More interestingly Coach Roy Williams tipped his hand as to what starting lineup he would use. He opted not to start Nate Britt and instead started sophomore Kenny Williams in his place. The younger Williams is supposed to be a shooter and defender at the two guard though he missed all his three point attempts and shot 1 of 5 from the floor.

The choice of the younger Williams is also reflective of the optimism with which the team expects to get Theo Pinson back later this season. Kenny Williams is a closer facsimile of what Pinson does than Britt is. Add to that Williams is three to four inches taller than Britt and a better match for opposing two guards.

Do not think that Britt is not going to see the court. He spent good amounts of time at both guard positions last night. It seems clear that Coach Williams intends to save Britt for use as a backup point guard as much as can and cannot tire him out at the off guard position.

The Tar Heels play their home opener Sunday against the Mocs of Chattanooga.
