The NC State Wolfpack have a lot riding on the last three games of the season.

The NC State Wolfpack have had a trying season. They have four wins and five losses. They need two victories in the last three games in order to secure a bowl bid. They have been upset close, and they been blown out. They have taken Clemson and Florida State to the limit.

It has been very up and down. They dismantled Wake Forest and stoned Notre Dame in the rain. They lost to lowly Boston College and an East Carolina team that has not lived up to expectations. Now all rests in three games.

The first game is probably the easiest of the group. State plays the Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome. The Orange have an identical total record and a slightly better conference record than the Wolfpack. It also will put a premium on running the football. The Orange like to throw the rock and State will need to keep them off the field.

Enter Matt Dayes. The running back ran for over a hundred yards against Florida State and therefore would be the perfect candidate to do something even better against the less credible Syracuse Orange defense.

If the Wolfpack do get into a shootout with the Orange, then they will have to hope transfer quarterback Ryan Finley has another three hundred yard day in him. As long as Finley can find Nyheim Hines, there is a good chance that State will score points of their own on the artificial surface.

The State defense managed to restrain Dalvin Cook last week. This week it will be whether they can do a better job stopping the arm of Eric Dungey than did with Deondre Francois. If not, then State could be in for a rough final ride and Dave Doeren might be out the door.

A failure against Syracuse would also mean that State would have to run the table against Miami and rival North Carolina in coming weeks. While the Tar Heels looked mortal Thursday night, that would still be a tall order.
