The Carolina Panthers (3-5) defeated the Los Angeles Rams (3-5), 13-10.  Both teams are still in playoff contention, though it looks slim for both.

Carolina’s Cam Newton played a solid game on Sunday. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown. He rushed seven times for 16 yards.

Newton connected with seven different wide receivers. His primary targets were Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen and Ted Ginn, Jr. Benjamin finished the game with five catches for 76 yards. Olsen caught five passes for 52 yards. Ginn reeled in five catches for 40 yards.

Carolina’s running game was mediocre. Jonathan Stewart rushed 17 times for 42 yards. Stewart has played well since he came back from an injury.

Carolina’s defense did a great job limiting Los Angeles Rams’ running back Todd Gurley. Gurley rushed 12 times for 48 yards. Gurley could find rhythm against the Panthers. His ineffectiveness made the Rams one-dimensional.

Rams’ quarterback Case Keenum completed 27 of 46 passes for 296 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Next up for the Carolina Panthers are the Kansas City Chiefs (6-2).

The Panthers have a difficult schedule for the rest of the season. They must win at least six of seven of their last eight games to make the playoffs. If they finish first place in the NFC South Division, then they are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
