Carolina Panthers: Beat Arizona, end four-game losing streak

The Carolina Panthers are back in the win column. This past weekend, Carolina defeated the Arizona Cardinals 30-20.

Panthers’ running back Jonathan Stewart led the Panthers with 25 rushes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Stewart caught a pass for 25 yards, also.

Carolina’s defense was responsible for one touchdown. In the first quarter, Thomas Davis returned a fumble 46 yards for a touchdown. This marked the first touchdown of Davis’ decorated career. This touchdown was Carolina’s first score on Sunday.

Carolina dominated the first half. They led at halftime 24-7. Arizona’s Carson Palmer connected on a touchdown with J.J. Nelson prior to halftime. In the second half, Arizona found more of a rhythm on offense. Palmer threw touchdowns to Nelson and John Brown.

Carolina’s defense won the game for the Panthers. They held Arizona’s David Johnson to 24 yards on 10 rushes. Likewise, Cardinals’ wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did not register a touchdown on Sunday despite reeling in 10 receptions for 74 yards.

Carolina’s Cam Newton had a mediocre game. He completed 14 of 27 passes for 212 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Kelvin Benjamin caught two passes for 73 yards. Ted Ginn, Jr. caught five receptions for 53. Devin Funchess had three catches for 38 yards.

The rest of the Panthers’ 2016 schedule is rough.

Next week, they go on the road to play the Los Angeles Rams. This game is followed by the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks. Carolina’s games against Oakland and Seattle are away games.

This four-game stretch will likely determine Carolina’s fate in regards to making a playoff run.
