The North Carolina Tar Heels are even making news in the baseball realm right now.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have certainly left their impact on the baseball playoffs this year. Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona is a former Tar Heel and ace reliever Andrew Miller are both on the team and both were big reasons for the Indians making the World Series.

Miller was named the most valuable player of the series against the Toronto Blue Jays. He struck out fourteen of the twenty-six batters he faced in the series. He pitched shutout ball including a four out save. He has pitched in a variety of situations. He has been closer, setup, and long relief depending on the day or lineup.

He was the fourth reliever to win the honor of most valuable player in the League Championship Series.

Francona also pulled off a little magic of his own in the series. With his starting pitcher Trevor Bauer injured and unable to continue in Game 3, Francona used seven pitchers to bring the Indians home winners. That pushed the Indians up 3-0 in the series.

Now the Indians are waiting for their opposition. The Dodgers and the Cubs are tied in their series and could be a little while before that is decided. The Indians find themselves in the odd position of having Charlie Sheen ask to throw out the first pitch of the World Series.

Miller and Francona serve as a reminder that the Tar Heels do play something other than basketball. If the resignation of Walt Weiss had not given us a hint of that then here are an active pitcher and active manager out there doing that. Now they are closer than ever to bringing home the first World Series to Cleveland since 1948.

The Cavs probably buried the Cleveland curse earlier this year so the Indians might very well do it.
