The North Carolina Tar Heels find themselves rewarded after a close win over the Florida State Seminoles.

The AP Top 25 had kicked the North Carolina Tar Heels out after the first game of the season. Now it welcomes them back at just about the same place that it kicked them out of. Ironically this was the same week that Georgia fell out of the poll. The Bulldogs were the team that had done the kicking back in Week One.

Other votes have been hard to come by as well. The AP continues to love the North Dakota State Bison weeks after their upset of Iowa.

Meanwhile there is other good news to be found in this poll besides the Tar Heels vaulting up to seventeen. Their Coastal brethren are getting some recognition as well. Miami is up at ten. Virginia Tech entered the poll at twenty-five. The ACC had six teams in the poll for the first time since Wake Forest was a conference power.

Another unexpected pleasure was Florida State remaining in the poll despite the loss. This might have been predictable given the Seminoles were ranked twelfth, but too many times have victims of the Tar Heels who were ranked suddenly became unranked in the next poll.

There was a lot of volatility in this poll given the number of ranked teams that lost this weekend. If the Tar Heels want to remain in the poll then they will have to keep winning. That means beating the Hokies this weekend.
