The Carolina Panthers will be plugging a hole quickly before they play the Atlanta Falcons.

The Carolina Panthers had to deal with a new problem today that will have an impact on their showdown with the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Left tackle Michael Oher, who has been so important to the team, was diagnosed with concussion symptoms and therefore will be unavailable. This leaves the Panthers to juggle their offense line.

There are a couple of ways that the Panthers could handle this. They could flip flop Mike Remmers to the other side of the ball. That would put a more proven commodity out in the position but it would also place him in an unfamiliar environment. Offensive line play is built on consistency and knowing where everyone will be. Moving Remmers might cause more issues to arise.

The second option is to tap the next man up. This would happen even if Remmers moved, since there would need to be a new guy in his spot. However the face of the next man would be different. If Remmers moved over, it is likely that Daryl Williams would man the right tackle spot. The team liked Williams to insert him at left guard during the Super Bowl until they put in an actual guard.

If Remmers does not move, then the new guy on the line will be backup tackle Donald Hawkins. Hawkins joined the team this past off season. He does not enjoy the name recognition that even Williams has. Hawkins has two years of experience in the league and played his college ball at Texas.

Next: Carolina Panthers add two defenders

Regardless of who plays, look for Dan Quinn of the Falcons to attack the new offensive line. As a former Seahawk assistant, Quinn believes in getting pressure from the defensive line. The Falcons have former Clemson freak Vic Beasley to throw into the blitz. Quinn could even go so far to bring in veteran Dwight Freeney in passing situations.
