Former NC State Wolfpack quarterback Jacoby Brissett was the trigger man for the Patriots last night. Then he hurt his trigger.

It has been an up and down ride for former NC State Wolfpack quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Yesterday he was the master of his first NFL start. He led the New England Patriots to a 27-0 win over the Houston Texans.

Today, it has been revealed that Brissett got hurt in the second half of said victory. It could require the Patriots to start a third quarterback this season, and one who is likely not on the roster.

According to reports from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Brissett tore a thumb ligament in his throwing hand. There was disagreement on whether it would require surgery since the Patriots likely would not tell anybody until the last minute anyway. If it does then it would take Brissett out of action for at least the next game.

If Brissett does not start another game all season he should be happy with the result from last night. He was not called on to do much. There were a lot of plays that resulted in LeGarrette Blount plowing into Texans defenders. He was good for two touchdowns. Turnovers also set up Brissett in manageable situations with Patriots taking field goals when they were available.

The first score of the game was Brissett’s big mark. Not especially fast, Brissett found a few openings to extend drives on the run. Then he ran twenty-seven yards to score his first NFL touchdown. It was his only score as he went a cool eleven for nineteen passing otherwise.

The Patriots’ winning margin had plenty to do with turnovers. The Texans lost not one but two kickoff fumbles. Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler also threw an interception.

Brissett and guard Joe Thuney will be around in some capacity next week against the Buffalo Bills. Anything can happen in ten days.
