Here are the five games to decide the upcoming football season of the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are looking to make good on what almost happened last season in football. They almost won a Sun Belt Conference title in their second year in the conference. They were only stopped by Arkansas State, who finished with a worse overall record but won all their Sun Belt games.

Their season will be defined by only a handful of games. The Mountaineers will have the advantage or disadvantage of missing Arkansas State on the schedule this time around. Also missing is South Alabama, which means I won’t be able to make the Snow Leopards joke this season. The Sun Belt was decidedly down last season as its traditional competent teams took steps back.

The Mountaineers defeated any team that was not a Conference Champion since their two losses last year were to Clemson and Arkansas State. The non-conference schedule loses the Tigers, but gains Tennessee and Miami. Those games will be crucial if the Mountaineers want to make the Bowl Alliance games.

So let’s at the five games that will decide the fate of the Mountaineers’ season. This in order of appearance rather than overall value.
