Carolina Panthers: All Time Twenty Year Team 2.0
9. Left Middle Linebacker – Jon Beason (2007-2013)
Guess that means that I have to sort through Morgan, Beason, Barrow, and Mills now. That’s tough. Mills spent last three years in Carolina. Morgan and Beason both saw their careers here shortened by injuries.
This was really hard because the All-Pro production of Beason over his early years elevates him over the other names. Sam Mills gets elevated because he spent fewer years, but was such an important part of the Panthers’ story even after his playing career.
So how do you decide between two players with different defenses in different times? I settled on tackles per game. It turns out that Mills averaged 5 tackles per game while he was in Carolina. Jon Beason averaged 6 tackles per game during his time here. So this is definitely going head over heart here.
Beason was ultimately dealt to the Giants because of fears of injuries. That trade also opened the room for Kuechly to move into the middle linebacker spot. Don’t forget thought that the All-Pro linebacker title was once a personal contest between Beason and Patrick Willis of the 49ers.
