  1. Trading Out

This is similar to trading down except in this case the Panthers get a proven veteran asset instead of a draft pick. This scenario is popular on the sister FanSided sites including the NFL Mocks site and the Carolina Panthers centric Cat Crave site.

Their presentation of this scenario is usually this, the Cleveland Browns want to get back into the first round to draft the quarterback that they did not get by trading back with the Eagles. They approach the Panthers with a package of picks (possibly from their Eagles haul) and All-Pro tackle Joe Thomas. The Panthers accept and now Cam Newton has a proven left tackle with more value than Michael Oher.

Thomas is a vet, and he might not be around for when the Browns emerge as competitors from their rebuild.

The problem with this scenario is that Cleveland’s new brass values draft picks. If they liked one of the two quarterbacks at the top of the draft they would not have traded back. I would find it hard to believe that they would not have taken one of those guys just to get back into the first round to get Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook.

This is a less likely scenario to me.
