The Carolina Panthers are playing in their second Super Bowl. How would they fare against the only other Panthers team to make it that far?

The Carolina Panthers have a history going back some twenty years. That history includes only one other team that ever made it to the Super Bowl, the 2003-4 Panthers. If you pay attention, the members of that Panthers team have been lurking around the sidelines of some recent Panthers games.

There is Jordan Gross working for the Panthers radio broadcast as a sideline reporter. Quarterback Jake Delhomme was at the last two games, including a picture with Governor Pat McCrory. Muhsin Muhammad was on hand when his former Bears teammate Charles Tillman got hurt. Ricky Proehl is the wide receivers coach of the Panthers. Finally Brentson Buckner was on the opposite sideline last week as the Cardinals defensive line coach.

So the natural question that popped up has been which team is better? The Julius Peppers Panthers or the Kawann Short Panthers? Similar stirrings happened in 2004 when the Charlotte Observer ran a mythical piece on a matchup between the 2003 Panthers and the 1996 Panthers. The Observer actually gave the nod to the 1996 team despite that team not reaching the Super Bowl.
