6. Strong Safety – Mike Minter (1997-2006)
The strong safety spot is one of the easier spots to lock down. Minter did play a little free safety too, but his prime was at the strong safety. His competition for this spot is a little deeper than the free spot. Maybe we should have put Minter at the other spot…
Other strong safeties of note would include Chad Cota from early on in Panthers history. It was Cota who defeated Pittsburgh to gain the Panthers a playoff bye. Kurt Coleman holds the spot now with his seven interceptions on the year, and Chris Harris had some good years in the spot before he moved on.
Minter was the all-time tackler for the Panthers until getting passed by Thomas Davis last year. He is also third all-time in interceptions on the team behind Gamble and Eric Davis. The second player to have been honored in their ring of honor next to Sam Mills.
