Third Team Defense

DE-Shendon Rankins, sr., Louisville (47)
DE-Ron Thompson, jr., Syracuse (24)
DT-Nazair Jones, soph., North Carolina (33)
– 6’5” 295 and a handful. Naz Jones showed his reach against NC State with a key deflection and strong play in the middle of the defense has allowed North Carolina to improve so much on that side of the ball.

DT-Derrick Nnadi, soph., Florida State (31)
DT-Darryl Render, sr., Pittsburgh (31)
LB-Shakeel Rashad, sr., North Carolina (58)
– The transition from 4-2-5 to 4-3 would have been more awkward if not for the efforts of former bandit Rashad. He has become the dependable tackler this team has needed for a long time.

More from Old North Banter

LB-James Burgess, sr., Louisville (53)
LB-Dwayne Norman, sr., Duke (43)
– Norman was told in training camp that he would be moving to linebacker to replace Kelby Brown. His speed has been crucial in responding to opposing offenses and making tackles.

CB-Cordrea Tankersley, jr., Clemson (47)
CB-Des Lawrence, jr., North Carolina (45)
– Big corners are the rage. Lawrence is a big corner. He was a leading tackler last year, but this year he is on this list for his coverage abilities.

S-Jordan Whitehead, fr., Pittsburgh (41)
S-Derwin James, fr., Florida State (30)
P-Will Monday, sr., Duke (39)
– Can’t help but feel that Monday should be higher on this list

Congratulations to all players on the All-ACC Team for 2015.
