North Carolina Tar Heels: 8th in the Football Polls
The North Carolina Tar Heels improved their poll position to eighth in the Week 13 Amway Coaches Poll
The North Carolina Tar Heels continued on their roll with a defeat of the NC State Wolfpack last Saturday. That sets up a showdown with the Clemson Tigers for all the stakes. The ACC Championship is there of course and so is any chance for the Tar Heels to gain some post-season relevance.
In this environment, the Amway Coaches Poll came out. Some of the chaos that the Tar Heels have been depending on played out over the weekend. Florida, Notre Dame, Baylor, Michigan, and Oklahoma State all lost and thus removed themselves as obstacles to a higher ranking for North Carolina. As a result the Tar Heels moved up to eight in the poll and eight in the Associated Press poll.
Above the Tar Heels are playoff favorites Michigan State, Oklahoma, and of course Alabama and Clemson. Also up there are Iowa and Ohio State. Already the sports talk radio stations are debating the relative merits of Ohio State and North Carolina in the event that the Tar Heels bounce the Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship game.

A full playoff discussion awaits for a later time. The Tar Heels have done all they can since losing to South Carolina in week 1. Now they sit at number eight in the opinion polls looking to jump further.
Appalachian State is still gathering votes outside the poll. The Mountaineers beat the Ragin Cajuns and still are rooting for Arkansas State to slip up somewhere.
