Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Clemson Tigers Preview

Sometimes I think the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are just looking for the season to end. The team comes out and plays hard every week, but their problems are not going to be solved by anything other than recruiting more talent on offense.

This weekend sees the Deacs going on the road for the last time this year to Death Valley. The Deacs get rewarded from facing Notre Dame last week by facing the number 1 team in the nation this week. They will have to deal with Howard’s Rock and everything else.

Opponent: Clemson Tigers (10-0, 7-0 ACC) #1
Date: November 21
Time: 3:30 PM
TV: ESPN2
Venue: Memorial Stadium (Clemson, SC)

The one hope that Wake can rely on in this game is that Clemson somehow overlooks them in favor of next week’s matchup with South Carolina. If Clemson comes in cold then maybe Wake could steal a turnover or two and convert them into touchdowns. Then they would somehow have to ward off the Tigers when the inevitably made adjustments.

Syracuse did something similar, except Syracuse’s strength was on the offensive side of the ball. They were able to match the Tigers score for score until late in the game. Wake can’t depend on its offense to do that, and DeShaun Watson is going to score points.

No, Wake will go in and try to ugly up the game. They had some small success against Florida State doing that, but that was at home. This will be in the orange and purple of Clemson. Wayne Gallman already has his thousand yards and he could pull a Dalvin Cook on the Deacs.

So there is not much chance for the Deacs in this one. They do get a shot at the best team in the country according to the playoff folks. Could that be enough?

Prediction: 42-3 Clemson
